LET’S WORK TOGETHER

What is Community Energy?

Community energy refers to the delivery of local community owned and community-led energy services. These can include:

✓renewable energy electricity generation

✓reducing energy demand in the community, and

✓ developing local energy supply projects, ideally where energy is produced within the community and used in the community.

There are currently over 600 community energy groups across the UK, up 21% since 2021.

Together, they are generating 411 megawatts per year of clean, secure electricity.

The Government strongly supports the development of community energy schemes, and its Local Power Plan has a target of 8 gigawatts of community energy generating capacity by 2030.

This has been achieved by local people coming together. They have volunteered their time and skills to make their own communities more environmentally and economically sustainable, and energy secure in an increasingly uncertain world.
